Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Single Phase Installation and Maintenance focuses on ensuring that HVAC equipment operates effectively to maintain desired environmental conditions. These conditions include appropriate air temperature, air circulation, humidity, radiant heat levels, and control of dust, pollutants, and microorganisms.

The primary function of HVAC personnel is to provide comfort air-conditioning, which refers to regulating indoor climates to support the comfort, health, and productivity of occupants. Comfort air-conditioning systems are commonly found in residences, offices, institutions, hotels, sports arenas, industrial workspaces, and vehicles. In contrast, process air-conditioning supports production and operational activities in industrial settings, where environmental control is required to maintain product quality or operational efficiency.

In order to develop skilled and experienced workers within the HVAC industry, this NOSS has been formulated. This document provides structured competency standards based on expert discussions and real industry needs. Personnel trained under NOSS Level 2 will be equipped with fundamental technical skills, particularly in servicing and maintaining small ventilation systems, heating units, and air-cooled split air-conditioning units. These competencies allow individuals to start their careers as HVAC service technicians and progressively advance to higher roles, gaining better income according to their experience, capabilities, and the organization they work with.

This NOSS has been collaboratively developed by industry professionals to ensure alignment with current workforce requirements. It is intended to support the development of highly skilled HVAC personnel for the improvement of the national industry and overall economic growth.

In Malaysia, various organizations such as the Malaysian Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Association (MACRA) support and provide training in the HVAC sector. Individuals interested in pursuing a career in this field should meet the minimum requirements established through industry consultations—namely possession of at least SPM qualification and being medically fit for the nature of HVAC work.
